About the event
The criminal justice system has undergone many changes over the years, adapting to shifts in societal norms and understanding. One community experiencing rapid change is the LGBTQ+ population, which has highlighted gaps in the justice system’s response, especially regarding individuals involved in sexual offender treatment. While researchers have gathered insights on how the LGBTQ+ community is impacted by the criminal justice system—and the ways this community has influenced the system—there remains a lack of targeted assessment tools and interventions for LGBTQ+ individuals who have committed sexual offenses, both within and outside of correctional settings.
Raising awareness and understanding of the unique experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals in this context is crucial to providing effective, supportive treatment.
